A few words about me

Idaho is my home! I have continuously lived here for 23 years – more than any other place. It’s where I chose to raise my son and daughter. My daughter recently returned to Idaho to raise her three children, and they have made me a very proud grandfather.

All my life, I have been passionate about public service, believing that good government is possible when good people step up and get involved. That belief is a major motivation behind my decision to run for the position of Idaho State Controller.

In addition to my strong belief in public service, my professional background lends itself to my goal of serving in this position.

I have 34 years of auditing and evaluation experience, working for state legislatures in Idaho, Washington, Louisiana, and Kansas. Of those, twenty-two years were spent leading Idaho’s non-partisan Office of Performance Evaluations, where I evaluated and audited state agencies and policies for accountability, performance, and compliance with state law. During that time, I served seven years on the US Comptroller General’s Advisory Council for Government Auditing Standards.

While leading the Idaho Office of Performance Evaluations, I was honored to receive the Robert Ingle Service Award from the American Evaluation Association and the Donald & Alice Stone Outstanding Practitioner Award from the American Society of Public Administration. I was also invited to become a Fellow of the National Academy of Public Administration.

After leaving the Office of Performance Evaluations in 2024, I have served as a Visiting Clinical Professor in the School of Public Service at Boise State University.

In addition to my professional work, I have had the honor of serving on the boards of Jannus, Inc. and Learning Lab.
