Rakesh Mohan

My Priorities
After 14 years, it is time for change in the Office of the State Controller! I say this because the last major IT project, commonly known as Luma, launched by the State Controller faced many implementation challenges and cost-overrun in millions as reported by the legislature’s nonpartisan Office of Performance Evaluations. The 2024 report found:
“The procurement and implementation processes for Luma were flawed.”
“A lack of change management planning and insufficient customization to Idaho’s requirements contributed to the system’s launch challenges.”
“Survey responses from over 2,000 state employees revealed significant inefficiencies and disruptions caused by Luma…”

Jim Jones
Former Chief Justice, Idaho Supreme Court
“Rakesh Mohan distinguished himself as a dedicated public servant during his 21 years as Director of the Idaho Legislature’s Office of Performance Evaluations.
His in-depth studies of state programs brought about dramatic improvements and increased accountability, saving millions of taxpayer dollars.
Rakesh is unafraid of speaking truth to power.”

Molly O’Leary
Former Idaho State Bar President
“I have known Rakesh for the past decade, since we served together on the board of directors for Jannus, Inc.
I have found Rakesh to be a consummate professional who listens carefully to all sides of an issue before weighing in with his perspective, drawing on his many years as a public policy researcher and data analyst.
Rakesh’s quiet demeanor belies a depth of knowledge and experience that wisely informs his practical approach to problem solving — skills that will serve Idahoans well as he guides the stewardship of Idaho’s finances as Idaho’s next State Controller.”

Wendy Jaquet
Former Minority Leader, Idaho House of Representatives
"As a State Representative, I worked with Rakesh on a variety of studies under his direction as the Director of the State Office of Performance Evaluations. The studies were well done and created policy changes by the Legislature. Balanced and data driven, the studies were based on thoughtful and non-partisan objectives.
Additionally, several of my very bright BSU Public Administration students were recruited and mentored by Rakesh and developed into very talented agency evaluators."
About Me
Idaho is my home! I have continuously lived here for 23 years – more than any other place. It’s where I chose to raise my son and daughter. My daughter recently returned to Idaho to raise her three children, and they have made me a very proud grandfather.
All my life, I have been passionate about public service, believing that good government is possible when good people step up and get involved. That belief is a major motivation behind my decision to run for the position of Idaho State Controller.
In addition to my strong belief in public service, my professional background lends itself to my goal of serving in this position.
